All laptops must be configured by the Technology Department so that they are able to use Pine Crest’s wireless network and access network resources. All new laptops should be brought in for configuration before August 1. For more information, please call the Technology Department at 954-492-2222.

Technology Service Center
Pine Crest School has a laptop service center on both campuses. Students can drop off a laptop to be repaired and pick up a loaner laptop while their computer is being repaired.
Service Center Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
What grades use laptops at Pine Crest School?
Students in Grades 6 - 12 are required to use their own laptop computer at school.
Will students be expected to bring their laptops to school every day?
Will the laptops be used in each class every day?
Most days, but the use of the laptop in class will depend on the content area and the appropriateness of technology for the lesson being taught. It is expected that the type and frequency of use will vary according to the curriculum. Laptops in the classroom can help to improve students' writing as well as allow for spontaneous, student-directed learning through Internet research, data collection and analysis, and multimedia presentations.
What type of laptop should I purchase for my child?
Parents are recommended to purchase either the Dell Latitude 3390 2-in-1, Latitude 7390 2-in-1, Apple MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro. Please refer to the 2019-2020 Laptop Guide
for specific details.
Do I have to purchase the laptop recommended by the school?
Purchasing one of the recommended laptop models ensures that our technicians will be able to service the laptop. However, most recent laptops should be able to be used. Please refer to the 2019-2020 Laptop Guide
for minimum hardware and software standards.
What happens if the laptop does not work or is accidentally damaged?
Pine Crest School has a Laptop Service Center on each campus. The Service Center can help resolve both hardware and software problems. The staff coordinates on-site repairs with the manufacturer's warranty to cover hardware defects. An accidental damage policy is recommended to cover any accidental damage. While the laptop is being repaired, the student will be able to use a "loaner" laptop.
In addition to laptops, what other technology tools are available to students?
Students have campus email accounts and password access to the school’s network, which provides use of Internet websites, online textbook resources, online library resources, multimedia programs, and the Google Suite of collaboration applications.
Will my laptop work on my home network and the school network?
If your home network consists of a broadband connection and a wireless router (802.11b,g compatible), the router needs to be set to assign Dynamic IP Addresses (DHCP). This will allow the student laptop access to a home network in a similar fashion to the school's network. A further configuration may be necessary based on equipment, vendor, software, or topography.
